We're closing the studio while Corona is here

We're closing the studio while Corona is here

Our workshops class as non-essential gatherings and so, in line with the advice of the government, I am closing the studio from today. It's so sad to have to do this, but I know it's the right thing.  I'll automatically issue you a credit note for the value of your outstanding workshop, plus an extra 10%. You don't need to do anything although it might take until Friday for me to make that happen!  I don't have new dates right now because it's not clear how long it will be before we can go back to life as normal....

My crochet journey

My crochet journey

If I'm truly honest, for years I couldn't get on board with crochet because of the holes. I am not into lacy, and the interesting crochet stitches always looked a little bit gappy -  not really my thing. But it was Zoe's unwavering commitement to crochet, and the fact that it irked me not to have a basic craft skill under my belt that has made me a convert!  I dabble a few times - once creating an monstrous pair of slippers, and then a few baskets, but I wasn't a convert. But then I found a whole stash of...

What makes the Big Craft Swish work?

What makes the Big Craft Swish work?

This morning, despite the awful weather brought in by Storm Dennis, the Big Craft Swish was packed as ever! Every year this gets better and better, and it's all down to the volunteers and the people who bring their materials.  The volunteers, many of whom have been coming for several years, are trulyt wonderful. Sarah had even brought boxes to organise the...

How many WIPS is too many WIPS?

How many WIPS is too many WIPS?

If you've even slightly dabbled with crafting, you probably have at least one craft project that you bought all the stuff for, but haven't yet finished - or maybe even started. The optimists amongst us call them Works In Progress (WIPs), others know them as UnFinished Objects (UFOs).  So how many is normal? When does a WIP become a UFO and what can you do with the ones that are just hanging around causing you vague background guilt? Some of my favourite crafters spill their WIP secrets... Zoe of @toocutetoquit is a professional craft teacher, and does every craft under...

Nice to meet you!

Nice to meet you!

It's been a while since I properly introduced myself, and seeing as it's a bit of a new start for me this year, now seems like a good time to say hello.  I'm Sonia, and I love making things. I really enjoy being able to make the things I like and I love the process of creating something from scratch. I've always made things for as long as I can remember, and I started making my own clothes as soon as I was allowed on the sewing machine! At art college I studied Glass and Sculpture, and when I was there...
